Touch down in London town

Yes, the Autumn 2012 edition of London Fashion Week is currently taking place in London and already I've seen some amazing collections from some of my favourite designers.

Christopher Bailey, Burberry's Chief Creative Officer, continues his incredible work at the historic company with an elegant collection filled with voluminous silhouettes and his usual creative twist on outerwear - in particular, the classic Burberry trench. Using a familiar neutral colour palette that echoes the Spring 2012 collection, slim shoulders and tailored jackets are juxtaposed with flared skirts in rich fabrics, like velvet and silk. The ornamental animal-detail clutches are cool addition to a collection that is sure to be a favourite.

If there's a beat of a drum that Mary Katranzou marches to, it is one that is all her own. Architecture-inspired shapes and bold, colourful prints abound in her Autumn 2012 collection that is unique, striking and extremely fluid, all at the same time. Compared to some of her previous collections, this one is more wearable, especially because her particular use of the structural silhouette in this collection is flattering. She does however continue to play with colours, exhibiting her famed prints (somewhat tribal this time) in sapphire, emerald and ruby.

I know of one Anna dello Russo who will love this collection. The last black dress here would look amazing on the red carpet. Also, how beautiful are the shoes? I love them.

Bad girls do it well

These are Marni platforms that Solange wore with one of her outfits for her ongoing, month-long 'Today I'm Wearing' style diary for Vogue UK. See why I love her? Her style is seemignly so effortless - incredibly well put together. I have no words for the beauty that is these shoes.

Joburg is abound with great, laid-back men's summer street style as is attested to by these Zee Fashionista street style images photographed by Yves Paris of AFTERDEF Museum. Morena's picture has to be my favourite to date - the definition of cool. Can we please get all men some red pants?!

Merc the new sponsor of JFW

Last week Thursday, I attended the media launch of Joburg Fashion Week Autumn/Winter '12/'13 at the Hyde Park Corner Shopping Centre in Johannesburg where Mercedes-Benz was unveiled as the new title sponsor of the Joburg, Cape Town and Durban fashion weeks.

Now known as Mecedes-Benz Joburg Fashion Week (MBJFW), the event will be bigger than before with 25 designers showcasing their designs in 20 shows over 4 days. There's a change in venue too - presented by Africa Fashion International (AFI), MBJFW will now be held on Hyde Park Corner's rooftop from the 7th to the 10th of March.

MBJFW's schedule is filled with the usual big-name SA designers, including Thula Sindi, Abigail Keats, David Tlale, Gavin Rajah, Spero Villioti and Kluk CDGT. What I'm really excited is that some of my favourite emerging designers - like Avant and Loin Cloth & Ashes - will feature at MBJFW, as well as MosewaMosa who happens to have designed my matric dance/prom dress.

It also doesn't hurt that three menswear designers, namely, C-squared, Fabiani and Distinctive Man, will also be featured (read: yes!). But it will be AFI's fashion development programme, Fastrack, that will kick off MBJFW with collections from three of its finalists.

I must say that the new C-Class C180 sedan-style Edition that Mercedes-Benz launched on the night certainly stole the show as the backdrop to the event - all that shininess and elegance certainly ties in well with the view of fashion as a lifestyle.

Speaking at the launch AFI chairperson, Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe said, “I believe one day we will look and see 2012 as a turning point, the beginning of a new era for African fashion.” With the success of the fashion weeks that Mercedes-Benz has been a part of, I can help but take her word for it.

Thank you to Monsieur Yves Paris, of AFTERDEF Museum, for these lovely pictures. For information on tickets to all the shows, visit AFI's website here. Bring on MBJFW...

PUMA: Built for Moi

I am a lucky girl. Earlier this month I found out that I have been selected as one of PUMA's T7 ambassadors which means that today, I had the absolute priviledge of designing my very own, custom PUMA T7 track jacket at the PUMA Creative Factory 'Built for One' Workshop in Johannesburg.

What an incredible opportunity it was. You always take for granted just how much work goes into making an actual garment, but it was so exciting to get to choose the fabric colour combinations, panels, zippers, collar, cuffs and waistband that would be going onto my T7 jacket.

The classic PUMA T7 jacket has been around for 40 years and it has cult status amongst rockstars and other celebs. The other T7 ambassadors in South Africa include Janine Jellars, Liesel van der Westhuizen, Jack Parrow, Lindiwe Suttle, Milisuthando Bongela, Chantelle Da Silva and Sais du Plessis - yes, I am in very good company. What's also great is that the PUMA creative Factory 'Built for One workshops have also been taking lace around the world.

So on the 29th of February we will all be unveiling our T7 jackets at the PUMA Creative Factory Built for One Event at Earthlife in Cape Town. Not only is this event open to the public, but 100 members of the public will, on that day, also get the chance to customise a T7 jacket, by drawing inspiration from our jackets, at a cost of R699.

The jacket is literally made right in front of your eyes! As you can imagine, I am super excited about the event. If you're in Cape Twon and would like to come to the event, visit PUMA.com/CreativeFactory. Or you could pre-order your T7 jacket by emailing a booking request to  builtforone@puma.co.za.

Excited is my name! Thank you PUMA.

Pure deliciousness

Yesterday these Plum Delicious beauties arrived in the mail for me. This was after I attended the Plum Winter 2012 collection launch at Set in Rosebank on the 26th of January, where we all received Plum shoe vouchers in our goodie bags. Just my luck, right?

I love everything about them, especially the fact that they are incredibly high. Sky high! Oh well, the higher the better - always! Merci Plum Delicious.

Ralph Lauren is ♥

These loafers, shot by The Coveteur, from Ralph Lauren's Accessories Autumn 2012 First Look are most definitely shoes to lose sleep over. Brogues and loafers are really all the shoes I wear nowadays (yeah, even in this scorching Johannesburg heat), so these brogues have convinced me to add velvet loafers to my collection. These brogues are a thing of beauty.

Lanvin, unsettling? C'mon!

According to The Gloss, these images from Lanvin's Spring 2012 ad campaign are "unsettling'' because the use of snakes by Steven Meisel in the campaign "adds a little something sinister to the brand".

To this I have one word: c'mon!

Sinister? Instead of taking away from the good taste of Lanvin's brand, this campaign adds to it. One of my favourite things about this Lanvin Spring 2012 collection was Alber Elbaz's use of jewelled or green snakes coiling around the dresses and pants. And what happened in Paris? Women clambered to get their hands on the collection.

That's the allure with Lanvin - Elbaz makes women absolutely sexy, sometimes provocatively sexy, with designs that are immediately elegant, yet in touch with what women of that day want.

Who wouldn't want to look as incredible as models Amyeline Valade and Marte Mei van Haaster in these $3000 cocktail dresses?

Dude!
