Zee Fashionista: The 2011 J&B Met fashion report

The 2011 J&B Met fashion report

The J&B Met is a deliciously, delectable event, isn't it?

The beautiful and gloriously hot city of Cape Town, partying with suave types, drinks galore, the fashion... Oh yes, and the 16 thoroughbreds vying for the prize money (wipes brow).

Of course, what lured me to the Kenilworth Racecourse on the 29th of January was the fashion. The promise of larger than life, over-the-top outfits. A chance to go crazy, where anything could go really.

But I must admit, I was diappointed, satorially speaking.

Le Male
The men definitely outdressed the women, with the Carducci clan of Stevel Marc, Lulo Cafe, Stoan Seete and DJ Milkshake taking the cake. You know, there's something always so incredible about a man in a well-tailored suit. Somizi Mhlongo (who also happened to win the "Most elegant couple" award with Uyanda Mbuli) also looked in David Tlale.

Le Femme
Generally, the women who stayed true the theme, pulled it off well. From Bonang Matheba in her purple architectural Gert Johan Coetzee dress, to Uyanda Mbuli's red Diamond Face Couture get-up, to (my favourite) City Press' Mokgadi Seabi in a très salmon David Tlale number.

Other stunners included heavily pregnant Zuraida Jardine in Nicole Miller and Tammy-Ann Fortuin in Kluk CGDT. As expected, South Africa's designer du jour Gert Johan Coetzee was on everyone's lips, having dressed a number of celebrities.

Moi
My outfit was a lilac ensemble created (within a week!) by the lovely Jamakazi and her assistant Nomthi, both of Fruitcake Vintage Clothing Shop in Fashion Kapitol in Johannesburg.

I loved the tassle panneling, the big tule bow and huge multi-pastel coloured shoulder detail. I also loved how my bold hat picked up the detail on my dress - Jamakazi you are a genius!

And my shoes were killer. Prancing around the J&B main marquee, I definitely felt them. Thank goodness we were offered foot massages and make-up touch ups. But then again, when you're downing J&B, everything seems is okay...

I spotted numerous fashionistas throughout the day.

The pre and after parties were incredible, with lobsters other tasty treats abound. I even managed to squeeze some shopping in Long Street.

I absolutely enjoyed the J&B Met experience. Cape Town, I'll see you soon. Next up, Joburg fashion week Autumn/Winter '11 baby!

Currently it seems like Wordpress is the top blogging platform out there right
now. (from what I've read) Is that what you're using on your blog?
