Irreverent

ir·rev·er·ent (iˈrev(ə)rənt)

adj.

1. Lacking or exhibiting a lack of reverence; disrespectful.

2. Critical of what is generally accepted or respected; satirical: irreverent humor.

The title says it all. I don't know why I don't own this book yet, but I will soon enough.

Carine Roitfeld, former editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris, is renowned for fearlessly pushing the boundaries with her style ideas. Irreverent is her visual diary, of sorts, containing 250 magazine tear sheets, spanning her 30 year career, from some of the most important editorials and ad campaigns she has been a part of.

Roitfeld, a former model and writer, certainly is one woman I look up to. Art world impresario Oliver Zahm describes her thus:

“Carine Roitfeld’s influence on fashion is first and foremost her own doing — the fruit of that edgy, chic and audacious glamour that is hers and hers alone. Her style is as sharp and assertive as it is hard to describe, for it depends as much on how she wears the clothes as the brands and labels she chooses.”

Nothing but your t-shirt on...

Capture d’écran iPad 1Le T-shirt Vogue 90 ans au Printemps de la mode

So my beloved French Vogue is celebrating its 90th birthday and to commemorate the occasion, their selling 350 exclusive t-shirts with Lara Stone's boobs on them! (It's actually the cover picture of the special issue). Anyway, I wouldn't mind having one of those t-shirts - definite street chic.

Editor-in-chief, Carine Roitfeld, had this to say about the magazine's 90th birthday celebrations:
"Vogue Paris has always played the card of audacity. We couldn’t do a lukewarm issue.”

Lukewarm? Never. The cover says it all...

Blackface

French Vogue has sparked outrage with its spread featuring, Lara Stone, in dark brown make-up. The shoot, for the October '09 issue, was styled by Carine Roitfeld and shot by Steven Klein. Some have called it racist, others have called it irresponsible, and others have simply called it artistic. Whatever your views are, it cannot be denied that the images are controversial. But then again, that is what we've come to expect from French Vogue...
