Fashion introspection #12

These are some more beautiful shots of the street style from the recent New York Fashion Week, and having just attended South African Fashion Week this past weekend, I've been doing an introspection on fashion as a whole and why I love it so much.

It's pretty simple. Fashion is fun ('scuse the alliteration).

Really. I have so much fun planning my outfits everyday, and as fickle it may seem, I think your clothes do say a lot about you. You know that moment when you see someone who looks amazing in an outfit - perfect styling, perfect fit - is that just not a beautiful moment?

I've said before that I think in pictures, and I just think that your clothing is yet another way in which you can express your individuality. You know - lift your mood, or someone elses.

Anna Dello Russo's motto is, "I don't want to be cool; I want to be fashion." That is pretty much where my head is at right now when it comes to fashion. Man, I love this stuff...

The vestiges of last night's champagne are driving this post right now, so I'll end it here. But I'll leave you all with this - have fun with your clothes. You literally live in fashion (in clothes!), so you might as well make the most of it, right?

Merci et bonne journée.

Oh yeah, this is the other thing on my mind -

New York, New York

This has to be my favourite time of year. We will now be blessed by a succession of fashion weeks, and New York Fashion Week Spring 2012 is first up. Now you already know that NYFW features some of the most anticipated collections in fashion, so I"ll get right to my favourite collections so far.

Tribal baby - I must admit, I've been more of a fan of Donna Karan's fragrances than her collections, but her new tribal-inspired collection blew me away. The collection's colour palette is incredible, and I love the form-fitting silhouettes. Everything from the prints and cuts of the dresses, to the models' slinked back hair, dark lipstick and wooden necklaces was just amazing. I am one of the converted!

Have a lil' fun - Marc Jacobs really knows how to switch things up. His Spring 2012 collection is youthful and fun with tones of red, yellow, and very beautiful orange. Who doesn't love a relaxed belted skirt and a cool jacket and pants combo?

Goin' retro with it - Diane Von Furstenburg is a master of prints. Every single season her signature prints are always right on trend and just plain beautiful. What I love about this collection though is the 60s vibe. The colour-rimmed sunglasses and beehives were a cool touch, and the yellow, green and blue hues were refreshing. I was surprised by how baggy the collection mostly was.

On second thought, I was actually disappointed by NYFW. I mentioned earlier that I'd be posting my favourite collections, and sadly, this is it so far. I thought I would have liked  Alexander Wang and Zac Posen, but I was underwhelmed by both their collections. Hopefully Diesel Black and Gold will be much more entertaining, but if not, I'm sure London, Paris and Milan will not disappoint.

New York Fashion Week A/W '11

Derek Lam

I loved the free-flowing gowns seen in this Derek Lam collection. All the clothes were tied together by one beautiful thread - subtle, minimalist and super chic.

Vivienne Tam

Vivienne Tam's collection was all about the cutaway detail. It was altogether a soft collection with lace, sheers and crochet clothing abound.

G-Star RAW

Goth, buckles, belts, leather and hot pants were staple items in this industrial-themed G-Star collection. It's certainly a raw, hard collection.

Prabal Gurung

Yet more sheers and crochets were evident in Prabal gurung's collection. I loved the red statement dresses, multiple layering and stunning maxi dresses. More from new York to come soon. (Pics via Fashionising.com)

Love.Angel.Music.Baby

I've always appreciated the uniqueness and spunk of Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B collection but I reckon that this season, she's taken it to a whole new level. The Afro-Carribean inspired prints in the Spring 2011 collection are incredible. The plaids, tie-dyes and ikat options really remind me of home. The collection is haphazard, wild, playful and super stylish stylish all at the same. I agree Gwen -

"Just wait 'til you get your little hands on L.A.M.B."
