M.I.A x Versus

M.I.A is like one of the coolest people ever, so you can just imagine how absolutely cool any clothing line that she can come up with would be. And she just had to choose Versus Versace to collaborate with - ah, just another amazingly epic brand that has been consistently churning out some of the - you guessed it - coolest collections ever.

By the looks of this promo video, the collection will have her favourites - gold, crazy logos, and that retro feel you just wanna have, man. Who would've thought the collection is based on knockoff Versace pieces she saw in London as a teenie? Poetic justice.

And she just released her new musical offering, Matangi, yesterday, so all things are about to be M.I.A again.

Iconic Versace

These '90s Versace ads are so incredibly cool. J'adore.

The H&M debate

Swedish brand H&M sure rounded up all the top models for the ad camapign for the Versace/H&M collaboration. Lensed by Mert & Marcus, Sasha Pivovarova, Daphne Groeneveld, Abbey Lee Kershaw and Lindsey Wixson are all dressed up in bold, neon-coloured patterned pieces that pay homage to late, great Gianni Versace's aesthetic.

It's interesting that a number of people are actually unhappy about H&M's continuing collaboration with high-end brands, arguing that the quality and craftsmanship of the clothes will be of an 'H&M' standard, and not of the desired 'Versace' standard.

That's all well and true, but plain and simply, big brands have to consider this kind of collaboration if they are to remain relevant and trendy. I guess the thought of having thousands and thousands of women dressed in $200 Versace for H&M dresses does, in a way, detract from the exclusivity of the brand. But then again, how many of us love Versace but would otherwise never be able to afford a $6000 Versace dress?

For me it is, yet again, a matter of moderation. Sure, Karl Lagerfeld, Lanvin and other brands have already collaborated, but it would get a bit too much if we had all these brands being mass-produced at a lower cost.

But in South Africa, where it is not easy for the average person to get a hold of local designer pieces, collaborations like these (especially with department stores like Edgars, Woolworths and Mr Price) are increasing so as to get the public interested and aware of local designers and fashion.

Perhaps, it's just all relative?

Looking back, moving forward

Electrifying. That is the first word that comes to mind when I think of this Versace Pre-A/W '11 Collection Look Book.

I'm drawn to it by the bold prints and colours and the 60s theme coming through the clothes. Donatella always manages to get a fresh, vibrant interpretation of past eras. Of course Kasia Struss looks stunning in the clothes. The pants and the shoes are killer! Love it.

I was instantly struck by this image of Jac in Atelier Versace's Autumn 2010 Look Book. Beautiful shot.

Donatella, you're my idol...

I have already declared my undying love for Versace and every season, Donatella continues to captivate me with her eye for new trends. The Winter 2010 collection was super sexy and I loved the hint of metallics and the structure of the clothes (particularly the trenches). The Winter '10/'11 ad campaign features rising star Anna Selezneva and Isalin Steiro and Valeriya Kelava. The ads are black and white so you can't see the colour but the sleekness of the clothes still comes through. I also love the sunglasses and the dresses with the cut-outs. Very chic.

Versace = love

Every season, I always look forward to the Versace show, and the F/W 2010 show did not disappoint. Sexy, chic, young and fresh, with dresses, heels, jackets and pants to die for! Bellissima!
